MAD Math-a-thon raises more than $3,500
We Have another MAD update from Lisa. She and her students recently participated in a math-a-thon, and here are the details… Dear Donny,
We are all still MAD here at SPMS. Our sixth graders recently participated in a Math-A-Thon activity. By combining math activities and community service, the students raised $3540.10 which was donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The students were excited to help other kids in the fight against childhood cancer, and they will celebrate with an ice cream sundae party next week. I also enjoyed spending time in Vegas over spring break and sharing the news of my student’s success with you and Marie. It’s all about the children!!!
In addition to our ongoing anti-bullying program and our kindness program, students will enjoy another “Making A Difference; Making LifeGreat” assembly this week. This assembly will focus on conservation of our precious natural resources. Then, students will be introduced to our next community service project: “Food Drive for Free Throws.”We will be collecting food for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Each item donated will entitle the student to a basketball free throw. What could be better than combining a community service project with physical fitness? The students and homeroom groups with the most successful free throws will enjoy a pizza party as a reward for their efforts. I’ll let you know how things go with this project in a few weeks.
The seed you planted last August is growing strong here at SPMS. Each student is “Making A Difference and Making Life Great” for their fellow classmates and for those outside of our classroom walls. These lessons learned should foster a life long commitment to helping others. We will continue MAD until the last day of school in June and then I will spend the summer planning an even bigger and better program for next year.
