My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

Debby & Donny Osmond

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

  • What does it mean to be “sealed”? Is it a big goal to grow your family as much as possible?

Most Mormons I’ve spoken with generally do not believe in spirits or ghosts they say because “ghosts” don’t exist. That once you’re dead, your spirit is sent to The Celestial Kingdom where you live out eternity with the family you’ve been “sealed” to. What exactly does it mean to “be sealed” to someone? As blood relation to someone are you automatically sealed? Do all Mormons believe in being “sealed”? I know most LDS Mormons use the term Heavenly Kingdom but how often does the term Celestial Kingdom come to use? Is it a goal in your religion to grow your family as big as you can?

  • My Brother

I am presently on Fmla to care for our mother. My leave began in May and ends in August. I moved in with her to care for her. I also have my own home. Cannot bear to put her in the nursing home to waste away. It is very dificult. My brother is a pastor. I receive no help from him unless I ask. He made it clear he would not give his life up to help care for her. I do not regret my decision. I will not be returning to work after fmla is over. I will continue to care for her till she is gone. What I’m asking, are there any scriptures to help me understand why he can’t help more with him being a pastor  and the meaning of honor thy father and mother?

  • Mentally Challenged Child

I just read your response to a woman who has a mentally challenged child, and this was at the end of the response (emphasis added):
“I feel these, such as your son, are special souls who are  not subject to the wiles of Satan and who surely  must have been especially valiant before birth to not have to thus prove themselves here.”
On the other hand, the blessings of marriage, and every other blessing and  eternal opportunity will be afforded to them in the worlds to come.  If you would be interested, I would love to share with you what I believe you must do to even keep up with him in eternity.”
I, too have a mentally challenged child (now an adult), I would really appreciate your expanding on what you meant in these paragraphs.  Is it taken from the Bible?
