My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Many God, before God

Whats your take in that, many believe we may become God also, just as jesus…where do the church take that from?

  • Is your church my path to God’s love again?

I guess I want to know if I belong or could even be accepted in the views of your faith? I feel as though some of my mistakes and straying from belief has made me unworthy/unable to receive the peace in my heart that I once had when I thought about my relationship with God. Could I have completely burned my bridge with God?

  • Mormon belief that life is a test

I read that Mormons believe that the purpose of life is to gain a body and to be tested. Is this accurate?

As a parent, I find it very disturbing and even illogical that a loving God would deliberately “test” His children. That kind of philosophy sounds egocentric.

I do agree that life is full of all kinds of hardships, tribulations, trials, etc., but it makes more sense that is due to the fallen nature of creation itself, and not something a loving God would deliberately do to His children.

I don’t ask the following in a snarky way, rather just trying to understand what you believe is the nature of parenthood and what it means to be a parent. As a parent, Donny, have you and your wife raised your sons in at atmosphere of testing them? Or rather in an atmosphere of loving and nurturing them, especially during the times of challenges.

And what if they didn’t do well during those times of challenges.

I simply don’t understand the philosophy of a loving God “testing” His children.

  • Finding God

I have never been very religious in my youth. But as I grow older (35), I’m trying to find myself and God. My husband is an atheist and thinks that religion is full of nonsense. How can I have a personal relationship with God?
