My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

Debby & Donny Osmond

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Mission

I used to feel so sad that you did not get the opportunity to go on a Mission. I see now that Heavenly Father saw the whole picture. He knew that you would be Valiant in your testimony and have many ways to share the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May Our Father bless you for your courage to stand for truth.

  • You Served a Mission

I just read your statement about not regretting serving a full-time mission.  I just wanted you to know that I decided to take the missionary discussions from the missionaries when I was 16 years old because of your example. I wanted to know more about your beliefs then and I eventually joined the church in 1976. My  sweet husband and I were eventually sealed in the Dallas, Texas temple and our youngest daughter is currently serving a mission in Argentina.  By living the gospel principles, you DID serve a mission and touched the lives of more people than you can imagine. There is nothing to regret.

  • Missions

I wonder what you will do if I will visit your home and try to convert you from your religion to my religion? You probably will stay polite but you will reject my offer, right? Then why do people from your church still continue going on a ‘war’ path trying to convert other people?

How sure are you that people who do convert are sincere and genuine about it?

  • I’m not sure if I should serve a mission?

I know I should go because the General Authorities expect all able young men to serve missions and my patriartichal blessing states that “the time will come when you will be called to be a missionary…” but I really don’t have a strong desire to go because of how hard it’s going to be for me mentally and emotionally(I’m very shy and self-conscious). And every time I try to make the decision to do something else other than a mission like college, it doesn’t feel right and I get stuck and don’t know what to do.
I’ve prayed and prayed about this, and haven’t received any answer from God (which adds to my anxiety). I’m just afraid that I’m going to forfeit future blessings in this life and in the next by choosing not to go. I have no idea what to do?

  • Do I Serve a Mission?

I am a member of the church and still have a few years before I can go [on a mission]. I’m not sure if the Lord feels that I need to go. But then again, I feel as though I need to devote my time to academics. But how do I choose between what I feel I need to do? And what Heavenly Father wants me to do?
