My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Are Jesus and Satan Brothers?

I wanted to ask you your opinion on these two things; Do you believe that Jesus and satan are spiritual brothers, or do you believe satan is a fallen angel? And, I also wanted to ask you, do you believe that God the Father is Jesus’ biological father, or do you believe the Holy Spirit conceived Jesus?

Thank you for your time! May Jesus bless you!
I believe the Bible makes it clear that Jesus was the “only begotten” Son of God; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 1:16)

The Bible says that Abraham’s son was begotten by him: “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,” (Hebrews 11:17)
The dictionary definition of begotten is: (especially of a male parent) to procreate or generate (offspring).
Jesus looked like his Father in Heaven (See Hebrews 1:1-3 and John 14:9  I believe He was conceived of the Father, how I am not sure.  The scripture says Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost, which we believe is essential for any mortal to survive the presence of God the Father. (Luke 1:35)  Whether there was physical contact or not, I am convinced that it was God the Father that in His own way conceived Jesus.
We accept the scriptures that tell that our spirits are the offspring of our Heavenly Father:
“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.” (Acts17:29

“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of GodAnd if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”  (Romans 8:16-17)

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?  (Hebrews 12:9)

Like the poet Wordsworth said:  “We did not suddenly flare into existence, but with trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, who is our home.”
Our spirits that give us life offspring of and dwell with our Heavenly Father before this earth was created.  Consider God’s question to Job:
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding… When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? (Job 38:4 & 7)
Jesus was also the firstborn of all of Father’s spirit offspring and as such, it seems, he inherited the birthright to actually be the creator:
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:14-16; see also John 1:1-3; 17:1-5 and Hebrews 1:1-3)
Lucifer was also a forward spirit, a “son of the morning”, who rebelled against the Father having wanted to take over the throne of God, and there was a war and he and his followers were cast out of that heavenly spirit abode to this earth and became Satan.  He is continuing to attempt to thwart the purposes of God and is succeeding pretty well for the time being.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”  (Isaiah 14:12-14; see also verses 15-19)

John in the 12th chapter of Revelation describe Lucifer as a great dragon who drew a third part of the “stars of heaven” with him and with whom he was “cast to the earth” where he would have destroyed the baby Jesus if he could. (See verses 3-5; verses 6-9 are below then continue verses 10-14):
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
The enemies of our church try to belittle our beliefs by saying we believe that Satan was a brother of Jesus, and this sounds awful, but the truth is that Lucifer, Satan is a spirit offspring of God as are you and me and Jesus (the firstborn who created the earth).  The difference is the Jesus always did the Father’s will and Satan rebelled and was cast out to provide the needed opposition that we have here so we can choose and learn by our own experiences.
Eventually, however, every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Christ and all but a few who have had come to a pure knowledge of the truth and then fought against it and who will join Satan in “outer darkness”, will receive some kind of glory forever. (See Romans14:11 and 1 Corinthians 15:40-42)
I hope this rather complicated response answers your question.
