My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Creation Vs. Evolution

I believe myself to be Christian, yet I struggle with this timeless question. While I maintain faith and continue to believe that man was created in God’s image, how as Christians might we come to terms with the quite compelling scientific data to suggest human beings evolved from a lesser species?

We just recently came across a very interesting video presentation that puts the “compelling scientific data” on our side. Of course, some of those who wish to believe that we evolved from monkeys will continue to lean on that theory because it really removes from them any responsibility for how they live their lives.

Personally, I have come to the strong conviction that the only real evidence of the truth of creation outlined in the Bible and even the divinity of Jesus Christ is that which Jesus told Peter in their exchange:

“When Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-17)

Christ goes on to say in verse 18 that it upon this kind of revelation that he will build his church and the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. God will reveal by the power of the Holy Ghost, the divinity of Christ and the truthfulness of his gospel.

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” (James 1:5-6)

For anyone who has felt the power of the Holy Spirit can understand how it can erase doubts and strengthen our beliefs in truth. You have obviously had your prayers answered in this regard to have been sustained in your faith in spite of the erroneous theories that have been purported for all of our lives.

Much thanks for your faith and for your question.
