My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Donny, I don’t know if you get these personally, but hoping you do. I posted a death experience on your website months ago, about what happened to me at the age of 17.  I am married to an LDS, raised in the Church, and even saw you in occasion when your family performed in Las Vegas. I have been studying the Book of Mormon that my mother in law gave me. At first my husband (David) ignored my efforts. So I began to ask him questions about passages. He knew them so well and soon we began reading them together. When we went to his family reunion in St. George, I asked his uncle questions about their genealogy. He was happy to share all the family history. It was amazing to me that his great grandmother had gone west on the “Mormon Trail” at the age of 11, after losing her parents to scarlet fever. Another family took care of her until they settled in Salt Lake City. She married at 18, had 7 children, one of which provided some of the granite that built the beautiful LDS temple! David had been baptized by his grandfather in St. George, Utah and we have been exploring his ancestors together. We have a ways to go but getting there together. After our daughter was killed (in 2013) I blamed myself, David blamed God, and now we both realize how wrong we were. Thank you for your kind words and a bit of guidance from my post on your website under “my beliefs”. I have been a fan most of my life but never imagined you could help me to finally find some peace in our lives. There are no words to thank you enough Donny. Please know you have made a huge difference in our lives as we find our way back to God, faith, and live for each other. I’m forever grateful.

Ps..We met you in Vegas at a “meet & greet” on Valentines Day. Had so much to tell you but many fans were there. I did not want to steal their time with you. I’ve read your book a dozen times or more. When you sang “Moon River”, I thought of all you went through as a child and my heart broke when the backdrop for that song was you as a child. I stood in ovation at the end, because of your amazing rendition of that song. You dedicated “Morning Side of the Mountain” to me during the show. A dream for this 57yr old fan who first saw you at the CNE in Toronto at the age of 11. Logic tells me you pick the same seat every night to sing to. My heart tells me that my daughter had a hand in it, since she was a fan also. I took her to see you at the OKeefe Centre in Toronto when you were “Joseph”. From that day on my Jeannie (my husband named her after me) was your fan. Thank you for all you have done for us Donny. Much love, Jeannie

    Dear Jean,
Lately, I have been getting a rash of comments to “My Beliefs” challenging or disparaging our Church and trying to show that Joseph Smith was not a prophet of God.  Those who do, of course, do not seem to give place for the power of the Holy Ghost, who will and does bear witness to our minds and hearts of the truth, and though there are many misunderstandings and even outright lies being floated around, it is comforting to know that there are those who are receptive to the spirit and will rest in the knowledge of the truth.
Thank you so much for your kind words.  I am very pleased to learn that there may have been something I ever did to be of comfort or any kind of positive influence to you.
