My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Mentally Challenged Child

We have a beautiful 24 year old son who is mentally [challenged].   He is a loving, gracious son and the love of our lives.  Due to his low level of functioning, he will never be able to enjoy some of the greatest gifts of life such as falling in love, marriage or having a family of his own.  Although it hasn’t always been easy we wouldn’t trade our life with him for anything.   The one thing that haunts me is at times I find myself selfishly wishing he were normal and could live a normal life.  I struggle with these thoughts because wishing this means I’m wishing he were different or someone he isn’t.  Please help me understand these feelings.

I have come to believe that in the Lord’s plan, it is a great blessing having a child  who is not accountable.  This means that he or she automatically qualifies for the atonement of Jesus Christ just as does a child who dies before reaching the age of accountability.  The rest of us have to qualify by accepting Christ and by finding and following His true gospel.
Book of Mormon – Moroni 8:8 – “Listen to the words of Christ, your Redeemer, your Lord and your God. Behold, I came into the world not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance; the whole need no physician, but they that are sick; wherefore, little children are whole, for they are not capable of committing sin….”
I feel these, such as your son, are special souls who are  not subject to the wiles of Satan and who surely  must have been especially valiant before birth to not have to thus prove themselves here.
On the other hand, the blessings of marriage, and every other blessing and  eternal opportunity will be afforded to them in the worlds to come.  If you would be interested, I would love to share with you what I believe you must do to even keep up with him in eternity.
    Love and blessing,
