My Beliefs

ARE WE RELATED?

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

Listen

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

    Donny,

I am currently a gospel doctrine teacher in Las Vegas, and YOU were my missionary.  I am doing a lesson on missionary work in the early history of the church (D & C/Church History Lesson 11.)  The lesson discusses how many people have come into the church because of the first Book of Mormon sold to Phineas Young by Samuel Smith.  It got me thinking about which ancestors in your family lines were the ones to join the church.  Can you share who they were, and maybe some stories about their conversions or early lives in the church?  Since you are part of my conversion story, their stories are also related to mine, and I would love to hear some of that history and to pass it on to my children.
Thank you Donny for being the kind of person we can still admire after all of these years. Your example has meant more to me than you will ever know. I have now been in the church for 42 years, having never gone inactive. I am so grateful to you for changing my life in so many positive ways.

    Hi Debby,

Thank you for your kind remarks.  As you certainly know, no one becomes a true follower of Jesus Christ unless they are genuinely interested in learning the truth and the confirmation of that truth comes from the Holy Ghost.  All any of us can do is to do our best to set an example and surely, it should be obvious that millions of the members of the Church are great examples of what the Savior has ask us to become.  My livelihood just happens to be that of a performer and am thus in a position to be known and observed by many.  I am so grateful for the restored gospel and the joy that it brings to my life and the lives of my family and I do feel grateful if my public exposure has encouraged anyone to seek to know about our faith.

We, at one point, collected the stories of conversion of some of our fans and at first I though it might help you in your class but I can’t find it. I must have removed it from the My Beliefs section.  That’s okay, because, again, you and I and millions of others are just trying our best to be good disciples of the Lord which includes sharing the gospel where we can.  We know that those who are intent on finding the true gospel and will seek, ask and knock (Matthew 7:7) will somehow, sooner or later, find it and know of its truth by the power of the Holy Ghost  If you and I can help in that, it does and will bring a lot of joy here and here after.

    Love to you and yours,

    Donny Osmond
