My Beliefs

ARE WE RELATED?

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

Listen

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Praying for years, but no answer or miracle?

    Hi Donny,

You have inspired me through the years. I have read your book multiple times and I know you can relate. I’ve been a fan of yours since I was 8 years old and just turned 54. I never gave up n you through the 1980’s so many people saying you were done in the entertainment world & look at you now 🙂 I think back on that since my family & I are going through hard times now. My husband has been laid off 4x in 4 years and unemployment support is no longer available. He is a hard worker and was a warehouse supervisor & got caught up in temp agencies hiring for short term and giving you a salary, not hourly so he doesn’t get overtime but is required to work 10-12 hour days. Once the warehouse project is over, they lay you off.
My dream is having our own business. He just fixed up his first house and want to sell or lease it.  We have not had any luck w/ any takers as of yet & had it over a year now. My salary isn’t enough. I also have another dream of starting my own business after I graduate & get my MBA in April.  I also love Melaleuca products & know you do too! I can never afford to go to convention which is usually in Salt Lake.
I keep praying & I know He has a plan for us like He did for you & your family. We’re just waiting patiently for that break & I wrote to you because I knew you could spread some light on the subject of praying and being patient.  I read the Bible & passages  frequently to stay positive, but it is fading with each passing day. I hope to see you & Marie in Vegas for my graduation gift. At the same time it is our 33rd wedding anniversary so I hope our financial status turns around quickly.  For richer or poorer … we keep hoping and trying to better our lives.
God Bless, I know faith will get us through… Your Fan forever, Jennie

    Dear Jennie,
Thank you very much for your generous remarks.  It is fans like you that have made my life’s profession possible and I do appreciate it.
I am sorry for your challenges.  I guess nearly everyone has some kinds of challenges in their lives and I believe those are part of God’s plan to test us, to see if we will turn to him or turn away.  It is clear that you are turning to him in prayer and that is the right thing to do.  It appears that you are not just relying on his help, but doing all you can, and that, I believe is what he wants us to do and will be inclined to answer our prayers in due time.
In your turning to God for help, may I invite you to examine what I have a conviction is his truth.  There are so many different religions in operation today, thousands claiming to be Christian implying that they are his religion.  I would ask you to think about the fact that the Lord led his church through apostles and prophets anciently:
7  Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.  (Old Testament | Amos 3:7)
Then ask the question:  Do any of these religions have apostles and prophet and if not, who is leading them and are they merely interpreting the gospel on their own accord?  These days we see so many, many different interpretations:
20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.  (New Testament | 2 Peter 1:20 – 21)
    Consider Paul’s declaration:
11  But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12  For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.     (New Testament | Galatians 1:11 – 12)

My belief is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ’s own church that he, himself restored through a modern day prophet and is now led by apostles and prophets as they are led by Christ.  If you are interested, we would be pleased to share more about the restoration of the gospel in these latter days.
    Let me know.  Thanks,
    Donny Osmond
