My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Warren Jeffs

Hi Donny,  I wanted to thank you for taking this message and honestly answering my question  as best as you are able to.  I have done some studying and have certain questions that I can not answer on my own I try and try to make sense of these things.   Warren Jeffs did a whole lot of bad things,  marrying others wives and sleeping with underage girls, plus false prophecies. How can someone do the same things and become a prophet and the other do the same things and go to jail? Is it because Joseph Smith lived in the 1800s and Warren Jeffs  lives now and we are able to spit a scam artist?  Warren’s people didn’t have enough time to spin the story.
    Thank you for your time,
    Hi Timothy,
The difference between Joseph Smith and Warren Jeffs is like the difference between good and bad.  Your assumptions that Joseph did what Jeffs did is completely inaccurate.  Warren Jeffs was self appointed while Joseph was called by God and Christ, the admission of which brought upon him an onslaught of persecution.  He was derided, driven, tarred and feathered, imprisoned on false charges, all of which came before he was commanded to introduce plural marriage prior to the second coming of Jesus Christ:
21  Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.  (New Testament | Acts 3:21)
Through Joseph’s great sacrifice, including his own young life, the restored Church has grown to over 15 million and is fulfilling the Lord’s own prophecy concerning the last days:
14  And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
    (New Testament | Matthew 24:14)
On the other hand, Jeff’s followers are struggling in spite of the fact that at one point, he admitted to be a fraud, and some of those who were loyal to him continued to follow him.
By the way, Joseph’s plural marriages and sealings, to other men’s wives, which seems to be a huge stumbling issues to so many, did not constitute what we think of today as marriage or any kind of marriage relationship.  Though we do not actually know the truth about the relationship that Joseph had with his “plural wives”, we do know the sealing covenant offers special blessings to the individual participating and those who sought that with Joseph wanted to be assured of the blessings.  As the Lord communicates “line upon line and precept upon precept, the wording and practice was clarified very soon after these sealings were performed and about all it amounts to is that here is another something for those who are looking for reasons to doubt that Joseph was a prophet to glom onto.  Plural marriage was discontinued as a result of divine revelation when the law required it to be so and after its primary purposes had been accomplished.
I have been in the Carthage Jail where Joseph was murdered and was touched by the spirit confirming the truth of the statement that was made by John Taylor, who was as close to Joseph as anyone alive when he said:  “Joseph was a virtuous man.”  He was not only a virtuous man, he was a prophet of God and lived a life of much suffering and sacrifice in his calling to be an instrument in restoring the fullness of the true gospel to the earth.  His older brother, Hyrum, who voluntarily went to his death with Joseph, certainly would not have followed a younger sibling who was a fraud or was acting immorally.  His parents and all of his siblings knew his calling was of God and were loyal to the cause until their deaths.  Even his father received a vision of the pending calling of his son.
He was either a true or false prophet. I know he was a true prophet. God knows he was a prophet and millions of others have had this same witness that I’ve had. If anyone will ask God with an open hear and open mind and be completely willing to accept his answer, they too can know.
I will be glad to share with you more about the restored gospel.  Let me know.
