ARE WE RELATED?

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

Listen

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

I believe in god surely he doesn’t want this for us having different family all the time .god bless debbie

    Dear Debbie,

I am sorry you have lost your pet.  We can become very close to these loyal and loving pets.

I have heard of accounts by some who have had near death experiences, where their spirits leave their bodies and have some kind of encounter in the world of spirits, before they are revived and their spirit re-enters their bodies, who report that the spirits of animals also are present in the spirit world.  Surely, if that is true, I’m pretty sure your cat will be waiting for you.

I am confident that reincarnation is not real.  I agree with you that our Heavenly Father does not send us back to mortality repeatedly.  His true plan of growth and eternal opportunities makes so much more sense and is actually all about eternal families. In fact, we can see that family life here in mortality, that is generation after generation, is a prototype of the eternities.  Let me briefly explain… It is clear in the scriptures that we, our spirits are “…the offspring of God…” (Acts 17:29):

6 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17  And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.  (Romans 8:16 – 17)

The prospect of becoming “joint heirs with Christ” becomes even more gloriously promising when we read in the first verses of Hebrews of what that could mean as Jesus has been  “… appointed heir of all things…”

The passage goes on to say:

“… by whom also he made the worlds;   Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;    (Hebrews 1:2 – 3)

Add to that this verse in the Book of Revelation:

21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

    (Revelation 3:21)

If you can possibly shed off the traditional teachings of what I will call mainstream Christianity, and open your spiritual mind to the fact that we are God’s spirit children and have the divine capacity to grow up to become like him; in fact, have been commanded to become like him:

48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)

…you will begin to understand who we really are and our potential and how by “suffering with him” or by “overcoming as he has overcome” we will share the glorious opportunities with him for all eternity.  This will include being bound to our mortal families forever and even more importantly, will involve participating in creating the next generation of spirits who will all have the same opportunities to progress, that our Heavenly Father is giving us.

I realize this doctrine is likely very foreign to you.  We are actually sorely criticized by some leaders of religion today for this belief, but I know it is true. I consider the greatest blessing of my life, the promise to be bound for all eternity to my dear wife and family.  We are bound by the very keys of priesthood authority that the Lord gave Peter:

19  And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.  (Matthew 16:19)

This priesthood along with the true gospel and organization of Christ’s Church has been restored to the earth in these latter days.

I would dearly love to share with you all of the information about what I have briefly mentioned here, if you are interested.  Let me know.

    Thanks,
