Ohio State Fair

August 1, 1978 Ohio State Fair

What an amazing crowd!

This was the first time I ever met your family in person! My sister, cousin, and, I attended your concert during the afternoon. After the show, we walked behind the grandstand to see you and your brothers playing softball. You all came over to the fence and signed autographs, and chatted with the fans. I was fifteen years old…I became a fan when I was nine! This was a moment I will never forget. You were all so very gracious. I have met all of you several times since that day. Your family remains one of the kindest group of people I have ever met. Thank you for the wonderful years of entertainment…and for staying true to yourself, and to your fans!!

Do you have the one from 1972? That’s when I saw you at the Ohio State fair. It was my very first concert. If you have it please share. Thank you!!!

Not at the moment. If you happen to have any pictures, send them in to timeline@donny.com.
Thanks,
Donny

When the Osmonds played the Ohio State Fair they would do an afternoon and an evening show. And of course we would watch both. This video is from the evening.

Before the afternoon show, without me knowing, my Dad stood in the executive parking lot and asked everyone who’s picture was in the fair program if he could get tickets for the fenced off section in front of the stage. They all said no. Until the head of the fair, Bob Evans ( not that Bob Eveans) said yes!

So when you watch this video you’ll see the seat hours earlier my mom, dad and I were sitting (stage right). I also remember asking my dad if it would be okay if I screamed.
Loving the memory, missing them both ❤️

I joyously attended Osmonds’ concerts at the Ohio State Fair in 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, and 1986.

I even sat in the pouring rain with my dearest friend, Joan Manns, during your 1990 Ohio State Fair “Soldier of Love” solo concert. The grandstand had been torn down and you were on a different stage that year.

Of all those years, 1978 is my absolute favorite! .

The first reason is that I had moved into my own apartment in February and could take vacation when I wanted. The week of your OSF shows is when I chose. And, I didn’t have to pick just one show to attend. Finally, I was able to attend all four performances!

The second reason is that I was finally able to sit in VIP seats near the stage. Local government officials, Chuck Curran and Bob Corbin, provided me with VIP tickets for the first three of the four shows. In the morning on the second day of shows, I drove the three-hour round trip to my apartment and back to Columbus because sitting in my mailbox was a VIP seat ticket from my Ohio Senator, John Glenn. Sadly, he passed away just a little over a year ago, I remember him quite fondly. Thanks to him, I was in a VIP seat for all four shows.

The third reason is that I got to see you with your lovely bride, Debbie, that year. How thrilling that was for so many of us!

What great memories from the 1978 OSF Osmond concerts. Thank you, Donny, for taking us along on your journey by way of your wonderful updated website!

Woohoo! Loving that white satin shirt!!

Those fairs sounds like fun. We don’t have them in Europe. At least, not then, maybe now, I don’t know…..

I so wish I could’ve seen you all back then! But I am fortunate to have seen and met you twice in Vegas. I am also coming to St. Augustine on 7/1. Can’t wait!

I was at this show! So fun!

I was at this fair concert! I was 8 years old! This is wonderful how you share old memories!

I love this song! “On the Shelf” is my favorite Donny and Marie song. I have listened to it over 300 times since I purchased the “Goin’ Coconuts” album a couple months ago.

My sister ,Susan and our best friend Robin Barnes went to Osmond concerts all summer long in 1976. I think we attended the first one in Indianapolis, then the next month at the Ohio State Fair. I know we saw you three times that summer but I can’t remember the last place. We had white t shirts with DONNY’S DEVILS printed on the back. We wore white jeans. At the Ohio state fair it had rained all morning. We ran across the race track in the mud to get to our seats. Our Mom wasn’t too happy to clean those jeans when we got home. But we had a great time.

My friend and I attended mutiple shows in the 1970’s (or before?) at the Ohio State Fair. We would stand in line for hours to get a good seat. Just last week we talked about meeting a fan named “Beanie”.

Loved seeing the performances at the Fair. It was always the most crowded on the days The Osmonds performed, but dealing with the extra people was well worth it!
