My Beliefs

Donny Osmond

“As I’ve traveled all over the world, the fact that I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has caused a lot of interesting questions. I’ve received so many letters and e-mails asking things like, What are the basic beliefs of Latter-day Saints?”

My Testimony

…Some want to know how Debbie and I have been able to maintain a strong marriage — over all these years — while living in the world of show business. Others want to know how we dealt with the challenges of raising a close and happy family in such difficult times.

How do we maintain a balance between work, and family life? Well, you know it’s not always easy, but the following pages are my attempt to explain a way of life that helps answer these kinds of questions. It gives me stability in a world, and in a business, that can be uncertain, compromising, and stressful. It’s the pattern that gives me direction in my life. And, I hope that this information will help answer some of your questions.

Questions & Answers

  • Procreation

Have you ever wondered why God made procreation the way He did? I know we couldn’t all just have kids the way the Virgin Mary did, but God is so pure that it just seems like he would come up with a more “pure” way of having children. If He did and the current way was never “created”, maybe there wouldn’t be so much impurity in the world like rape, prostitution, pornography.

I believe that the relationship of oneness intended between man and woman is precious and pure, even sacred in nature and fulfills divine purposes. One divine purpose is obviously to “multiply and replenish the earth” but another would certainly be to bond a husband and wife as could no other kind of oneness to be a mother and father unified in rearing their offspring. Intimacy, in the Lord’s way, will secure a relationship like nothing else. Our Creator’s intention is that a married couple keep their promises of fidelity and cleave only to one another each caring and loving the other with an unselfish heart. Such a mature relationship requires much of life and I believe is a perfect laboratory for applying the teachings of Jesus such as forgiveness, turn the other cheek, judge not and above all charity, which is selfless love.

It is only when it is violated in ways contrary to the Lord’s intention, that it become impure and is taught to be a gross sin. To ask why Satan is allowed to tamper with this sacred part of life might well be ask of most other aspects of life such as life itself. Why would anyone be allowed to take the life of another. For there to be a true test or probation as we discussed with the previous question, we must be allowed to make choices with any and all of the aspects of our lives here in mortality.

My religion teaches that some of the greatest eternal opportunities have to do with eternal families. We believe that the lofty blessings associated with “forever families” offer the greatest eternal celestial opportunities. On the other hand, the violation of these sacred trusts, offers the greatest threat to eternal success. Everyone has to make the choice.

My greatest goal in life, is to live worthy to have my dear Debbie along with our children beside me in Celestial Glory, as promised to those who will come unto and “suffer with” Christ and remain in “subjection” to him to the end of their lives.
